Eczema

Eczema is one of the most common skin infections of all. This skin disease is characterized by inflammation and redness of skin in patches.  Usually an eczema attack occurs when the person is pre-disposed to skin irritation, or as a direct result of some substance applied or ingested. When the person suffers fro pre-disposition of skin irritation this is mostly because it is inherited through his/her genes.  Eczema can be triggered by physiological factors as well as psychological factors. Basically eczema indicates imperfect metabolism, mental stress, and/ or some type of infection.

The reason for which the eczema happens

The symptoms most of the time will start with chills which sometimes develops into full grown flu attack.  After this happens, you may observe the presence of eczema on the body. This can be the direct result of a stomach upset, or nervous irritation of any of the internal organs. Sometimes, the period also act as a trigger for the appearance of the eczema on the body.  There is a close relationship between asthma and eczema making researchers believe that there are possibilities that the breathing difficulties that one experiences with asthma could result it or be the result of eczema on the bronchial tubes.
It has been observed that eczema attacks those who suffer of rheumatism; seborrhea and gout look to be especially prone to many eczema.  Some other time, everything may be alright when an attack of the bacteria and/fungus creates skin irritation which results in eczema.

The eczema is not contagious in general; but there are some skin diseases that look like something, but it is something else.  Hence, if you find that you have eczema, ensure that you visit the doctor and take the required medicines.  Between 18 and 40 years of age, it seems that men are more susceptible   to catch this disease. In the old age however, this age bias disappears. A doctor will be able to tell whether your eczema attack is normal, acute or chronic. The treatment will of course be given accordingly. The eczema usually starts as a rash which becomes progressively itchy and swollen; after one or two days the spot will resemble a blister, which in another two days more starts leaking a yellow substance. Thankfully it does not smell. In case of a mild attack the eczema will last maximum two days, while if it is acute it will last till the weekend.  Chronic cases will recur at regular intervals that provide almost no respite. Check out for mental upsets if you have a spurt of eczema. This is the way of the body to say that it is upset about something – it is like something inside is crying to be heard.  Nervousness, fear, anxiety, are actually taking their toll on you and your body develops eczema to compensate for the unhappiness.

The treatment of eczema

This disease can be treated with the help of internal and external treatment.  Depending how much is the inflammation inside the body, the doctor usually prescribed antimony because this can clear the arteries while at the same time, it has a very calming effect on the mind.  Since the nervous system is affected in producing the eczema, the patient may be intimated to exclude arsenic and iron as well.  When the patient is a kid below 6 years of age, or less one can give them extremely tiny doses of calomel (a sleeping/ relaxing pill). Be sure that you know what you are doing – preferably ask the advice of a doctor at least with the first dosage – or you will end up doing more harm and credit. The best choice is actually the internal treatment which should be complemented by local application of antiseptic lotion. In some cases there may be the need to have some mild sedatives in order to get through the day; particularly due to the contact itching.
