Freckles

The correct scientifically-worthy term for freckles can be described as an incorrect or uneven distribution of the melanin pigments that reside within your skin.  This sudden and abnormal deposit of melanin causes the freckle to appear visible to the human eye on one’s face.  Although this description may make freckles sound like a disastrous disease, it is wise to point out that it is not the case.

Why did I get freckles

Hereditary freckles

The most common case of freckles occurs before you are even born.  Studies show that freckles are greatly affected by genetic factors; if your father had freckles, it is quite likely that you will succumb to the same fate.  Studies have also went deeper and it is claimed that the total count of freckle on someone will closely resemble the same count made on your father (or even better on a twin brother or twin sister.)

Non-hereditary freckles

In most cases, the perpetrator, or the one that will cause you to have freckles, is the sun itself.  The sun (as well the lights used in a sun-tanning salon) emits ultraviolet lights (commonly referred to as UV lights.)  When you are exposed to sunlight, your body starts to work, the epidermis (skin) to be more precise.  First, your epidermis will thicken and the cells in charge of pigmentation (the melanocytes for all our scientists out there) will produce melanin at a more than usual rate.  Adding one and one together is quite simple; if on one side we have too much melanin being produced and on the other we have the explanation that too much melanin at congregated spot will become visually noticeable, then this means that we explained how freckles came to life.

Can I alter my fate?
It is indeed possible to “alter your fate,” but you could classify “having freckles” in the same category as “wearing glasses” or “being tall.”  Even though everyone does not fit in all of those categories, it does not make them a monster; if you don’t mind having freckles, then there is nothing to treat.  However, if for some reason you despise their very own existence, read on ahead.

Treating freckles the hard way

The most common and most likely the safest way to treat freckles is using what is called Bleaching Creams.  These creams have a concentration of hydroquinone (sorry, there’s no simpler term this time around,) which, if applied for an extended period of time, will soften the freckles to a point of no return.  After doing some research, it is good to mention that bleaching creams will not you having a medical prescription only if the hydroquinone dosage is low.  Please contact your doctor or look on the shelves at your local pharmacy to know more.

Treating freckles the easy way
If you are wealthy, or if you wish to pay the sum of money, you can look into laser surgery.  As with eye surgery, there are lasers made for the skin, that will destroy those freckles.  If you are skeptical about laser surgery, I should probably mention that the rate of success of extremely high and the rate of scarring is extremely low.

Preventing freckles
The best tactic (if you can) is simply preventing instead of treating.  This means that you should take the sun as your enemy.  The answer is simple on this one, simply wear sunscreen when you go outside; not only will you suppress to chance of having freckles, but you will also do the same for skin cancer.
