Fungal Disease

Cutaneous Candidiasis, better known as a Fungal infection of the skin is an infection of the skin that is caused by the Candida fungus.  It is easily noticeable by simply looking at someone since it will normally and clearly appears on the skin.  In most cases, this fungal infection will not be harmful (nor life threatening.)  If you believe you have the symptoms or if you notice that you have contracted Cutaneous Candidiasis, then contact a doctor, and they will give you their diagnostic and guide you on your path to recovery.

How did I know that I am infected?

First and foremost, fungal infections are normally visually noticeable; this should be enough for you to assess if you are actually infected or not.  Aside from the visual details, the most common symptom that will likely occur is itchiness.  You may be scratching yourself right now, but his is not the normal itch that occurs to everyone, but it is rather a semi-intense to intense itchiness, which will without any doubt, set your personal alarm and tell you that something is indeed wrong.  As well, if you have lesions or have rashes, then these may also very well point at a fungal infection.  Once again, if you are unsure that these symptoms are linked to a fungal infection, you may ask and contact your doctor to have a closer look at your skin; it is very likely that if looking at your skin does not yield a conclusive diagnostic that they will scrape some of your skin for further analysis.  At that point you will know without the shadow of a doubt if you have a fungal infection of the skin or not.

What may have caused this infection?
The first point to mention here, is that if you are infected then you should not be feeling distressed.  Fungal infection, as bad as it may sound, is not a very rare and mortal disease; it is quite common and will (hopefully) not have any serious consequences on your life.  As well, the risks of contracting the said disease become higher if you already have diabetes or if you are considered obese.  The most common places on your body that can be affected by the disease are the moist areas such as your armpits or groins.  Although your body already has a fair dose of bacteria as well as fungi, this problem does not have any hereditary links.  Finally, if you are still in the search for the perpertrator, then you may want to look into the little microorganisms that live on the layers of your skin; the same responsible microorganisms can also be found on your nails and on dead tissues located in your hair.

How do I get rid of it?
Although it is true that you can indeed be treated, it should be pointed out that the total eradication of fungal infections is quite difficult; you can sadly expect the problem to return if you do not follow the “guidelines” or if you let them slip out.  On the good side, these so-called guidelines are nothing to be afraid of and are actually quite simple.    Since obese people as well as people affected by diabetes are both likely target, then they should start by treating their other disease first, and will (or should) work with fungal diseases as well.  For obese people, loosing weight will inevitably lower the risk of fungal infections; on the other side, diabetics should always keep a good sugar control which will in turn make other infections less likely.  As for other people, the number one enemy of fungal diseases is good hygiene; this may sound like a cheesy attempt to pass a simple message, but with that said, if you wash yourself, take care of your body and keep your skin dry and exposed to the air, then the problem should not arise.  In last resort, there are also pharmaceutical antifungal medicines that can be bought in stores; these medicines may become needed if the nails are the infected area.  Even with those newly acquired small bits of knowledge, you should still contact a doctor if you believe that you have contracted Cutaneous Candidiasis.
